The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer: Two Elf Inspired Cocktails That Taste Like Holiday Magic!

Will Ferrell is Buddy the Elf in this 2003 comedic melodrama. When Buddy starts to feel his differences encumbering his life in the North Pole, with information from the Elf that raised him, he decides to leave and search for his biological dad.  Buddy finds his dad, but discovers so much more including love, friendship, food and drink that aren't mostly sugar, and elevator buttons.  All of this is a big adjustment for Buddy and Walter, his father (James Caan) a book publisher in New York City.  Typical of holiday movies, this has a heartwarming ending because "There's room for everyone on the nice list!".

Elf Food Groups is our first cocktail, and it has all of the major foods in that category, according to Buddy.  He explains to his step-mom played by Mary Steenburgen, ".. The four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup."  The cocktail itself is a lighter version of a sugar cookie cocktail.  Vodka, Hazelnut Liqueur, Bailey's Irish Cream, Half-and-Half, Vanilla, and Saline are all combined to make a buttery, sweet, vanilla scented, cookie flavored drink.  A great cocktail for tipping back while scribing on an Etch-A-Sketch, “I’m sorry I ruined your lives, and crammed eleven cookies into the VCR.” Garnished with a maple syrup and Christmas sprinkles rim, Christmas Candy Canes and Christmas Candy Corn to make a nice round Elf Food Groups cocktail that has a candy crunch and a silky texture.  It will have you exclaiming "Son of a Nutcracker!"  it's so good.

Our second cocktail is inspired by a couple of different scenes in Elf.  The "World's Best Crappy Cup of Coffee" is what Buddy treats his love interest Jovie, played by Zooey Deschanel, to at a diner after they begin to really connect.  Around that moment, Buddy is working a sort of internship in the mailroom and one of the clerks encourages Buddy to pour from a flask into his coffee, advising that it is maple syrup.  We find out that it is actually Bourbon, so we use that, combined with coffee liqueur,  maple syrup and some orange bitters to give Buddy the World's Best Crappy Cup of Coffee, and definitely a good coffee cocktail.  This is a spirit forward cocktail, so chilling it is key and so is serving it in a chilled rocks glass with a sphere to keep it really cold. Buddy: Reach out in front of you and take a sip. Don't look. Jovie sips the coffee. Buddy: Well? Jovie: It tastes like a crappy cup of coffee. [Buddy chuckles as she removes the blindfold] Jovie: It IS a crappy cup of coffee. Buddy: No, it's the world's BEST cup of coffee.

Whether you're a die-hard Elf fan or just looking to add a little holiday spirit to your cocktail game, these festive drinks deliver the perfect blend of nostalgia and cheer. The sweet and whimsical Elf Food Groups cocktail captures Buddy’s childlike wonder and love for all things sugary, while the World’s Best Crappy Cup of Coffee offers a bold, boozy nod to one of the film’s funniest moments. Together, they celebrate the heart, humor, and holiday warmth that make Elf a modern Christmas classic. So pour yourself a glass, cue up the movie, and remember—there’s room for everyone on the nice list.
